Our Encounter with WordPress

DigitalCube was established in 2006 as a one-person corporation by our representative, Koga.
The inspiration for our founding was “the encounter with WordPress.”
At that time, open-source products barely existed, and purchasing software licenses could cost millions of yen. It was then that he discovered WordPress.

He was amazed that something so impressive was being provided like a volunteer project, with ongoing development…!!
Moved by this worldview that overturned conventional assumptions, he became strongly determined to “spread the open-source concept more widely” and “create websites with WordPress to provide them to many people.”

Shortly after our founding, Ohta, who had been working as a freelance engineer, joined. Since then, we have continued our WordPress development business for over 15 years.

The Birth of Amimoto and Shifter Through Trial and Error

Currently, DigitalCube’s business primarily consists of three pillars: custom development, proprietary product development, and operational maintenance.

We started our proprietary product development business in 2011.
At first, we created all kinds of WordPress-related services and products—developing themes and plugins, creating remote managers, selling manuals, and more.
However, almost everything we released ended in failure.
It was amidst these failures that “Amimoto” was born.
Amimoto enabled WordPress hosting optimized for scalability and speed using AWS. This became our first product that we could proudly call a success.

We experienced many failures, but they were never wasted experiences. These failures became our strength, allowing us to acquire substantial knowledge. We gained insight into “what mechanisms are necessary” and “what will succeed or fail” when creating websites and products using WordPress.

As we listened to many clients’ WordPress concerns, we realized that all these issues fundamentally converged on the same problem.
We thought, “Why don’t we create a service that solves this?” With this in mind, we developed “Shifter.”
Shifter is a service that can launch WordPress environments serverlessly and generate static sites. It has been well-received by many clients and has now become one of DigitalCube’s flagship products.

The insights gained through repeated trial and error led to the creation of Amimoto and Shifter. These have become powerful assets for us as WordPress specialists.
