Featured Site: Amon, the crypto wallet and blog launches on Shifter

One of the most exciting Shifter sites we’ve helped onboard yet is from the company, Amon.

They are using Shifter in a completely new way, including the mix of Angular JS on their main product site and using their Shifter site as a means to source data with the WP Serverless API plugin.

About Amon

If you have never heard of Amon, here’s a direct quote from their newly launched product site for some background:

“Amon is an intelligent crypto debit card connected to a Wallet, offering real-time conversion from cryptocurrencies to fiat currencies.”

In essence, you can buy stuff with crypto using Amon and they’ll convert it instantly to the destination’s currency.

Amon helps ease the chaos of ever-fluctuating cryptocurrencies by offering a straightforward and simple solution in the form of a digital wallet and no more hassle of converting it beforehand.

The site we are hosting on Shifter is their blog site: blog.amon.tech. A site featuring interviews, advice, a deeper look into the industry of digital currency and they also cover topics on Blockchain and AI.

WP Serverless API

When we started to develop the idea of a Serverless WordPress API it was just proof of concept. We didn’t have an intended purpose at the time but we recognized the practical applications.

Our initial concept was that most JavaScript-based sites using WordPress as a backend or data source are using that install for GET requests only. For more complicated sites and POST’ing data, a standard install was required but that wasn’t our goal.

We created the WP Serverless API plugin which works by querying the WP-JSON API on post save and storing the output as a JSON file.

By exporting the site’s pages, posts, references to media assets, etc. we could then reference that data after the static version of the site was created. While sites on Shifter are not running WordPress or PHP in production, you can install the WP Serverless API plugin and still have access to that API data.

Amon is an early adopter of this plugin using it on their main product site to retrieve the 5 most recent posts. It’s a perfect use case for this plugin and we were excited to see it out there getting put to use.

If you’re interested in giving the WP Serverless API plugin a try, it’s available on Github and open source!
