Building a better WordPress Hosting Environment with AMIMOTO and WP.org

AMIMOTO has joined an official project from WordPress.org focused on creating better hosting environment for WordPress users.

This project uses the WordPress PHPUnit test suite to scan and measure the abilities of a particular hosting platform against what WordPress requires.

This type of project and work has become more important as the ecosystem of what developers and may ultimately run on their hosting packages and what support we need to extend to our customers.

We joined this project to ensure we are doing everything we can to provide a stable and modern hosting environment. To view our reports, they are available on the Make WordPress Hosting page here.

The way this project works is through an automated scan using the unit test suite. This test suite is designed to run PHPUnit tests specifically for WordPress. After the test suite is complete the report is generated and sent to the official hosting support project page.

As WordPress changes along with it’s supporting tech these tests will change with it. It’s our duty as a hosting provider to watch for these changes and update accordingly.

These tests will help WordPress become more standardized across environments and also make them more secure.

If you’d like to contribute to the project it’s available on Github. If you’d like to keep up with the progress of the various participating hosting providers you can do that here too.

We are really proud to be part of this project and think it’s just a beginning for future of WordPress Hosting!

If you’re really into testing, there’s another great project to look into. The Tide project is a testing suite designed just for plugins and works in a similar way.

As this project matures we hope to see it make it’s way into the official WordPress Plugin directory to help weed out any bad actors or deprecated plugins.
